The Hadith of the pond of Khumm (Arabic: غدير خم‎) is  a hadith which refers to a historical event

in Islamic history. 

In this hadith, the Islamic prophet Muhammad appointed Ali (Ali ibn Abi Talib) as his heir and successor. The event took place on 18th of Dhu al-Hijjah of 10 AH in the Islamic calendar (March 10,

632 AD at a place called Ghadir Khumm, which is located near the city of al-Juhfah, in present day Saudi Arabia.

70,000 to 150,000 people were present at this occasion.
